Arsenal star Kai Havertz reunited with his former club on Wednesday, scoring the equaliser in his side’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, was delighted to see Havertz back – and it seems many fans felt the same way.

"It was great to see Kai. He was wearing a red jersey, but it could have been ours. And the fact that the fans applauded a former player – that’s something I haven’t experienced before. It really shows how special his time here was and his connection to Bayer 04," Rolfes told German media after the game.

Leverkusen rarely bring back former fan favourites in the later stages of their careers, but Rolfes hinted that Havertz could be an exception.

"With Kai, there’s always the risk that I’ll give in. He knows that too," Rolfes said.

Still just 26 years old and reportedly earning around €20 million in the Premier League, a return to Leverkusen is currently out of the question. However, there could be a potential opening further down the line.

“Whenever we talk, I’m already chipping away,” Rolfes said with a wink and a chuckle.
