Bayern Munich and Barcelona are leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah, according to Sport Bild.

Both clubs made moves for the player last summer, with Bayern coming particularly close.

The Bavarians had agreed personal terms with the player, but the deal fell through because they couldn't agree on a fee with Leverkusen.

With Tah's contract set to expire in 2025, that won't be a problem next summer.

Alternatively, a January move to Real Madrid could happen if the Spanish giants, plagued by injuries at the back, step up their interest in him.

A move to Italy, however, doesn't appear to be on Tah's agenda, with the report claiming that his agency has turned down inquiries from Juventus and Inter.

Tah's agent, Pini Zahavi, recently confirmed in an interview with Welt am Sonntag that his client is looking to join a “big club” on a free transfer next summer.

“We tried to transfer Tah last summer. Unfortunately, Leverkusen asked for too much money. The idea was to go to Bayern, the club really wanted to get him. We would have liked to bring Leverkusen a transfer fee. Now the situation is very simple: Jonathan will go to a big club next summer. And Bayern still have a very good chance of getting him," Zahavi said.
