England manager Thomas Tuchel recently revealed that, during his time as Bayern Munich head coach, he had to fight against “other opinions” to bring Harry Kane to the club. But who was he referring to?

Looking back at the events surrounding Kane’s transfer in 2023, the comments appear to point towards Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß.

Before Kane completed his move from Tottenham, Hoeneß told Sky Germany that the England striker “wouldn’t be a transfer for Bayern” due to his age and price tag.

Reports at the time suggested that Hoeneß preferred a move for Randal Kolo Muani over Kane and made his preference clear to Tuchel.

Despite Hoeneß’ public remarks, which were reportedly considered “unfortunate” and “unnecessary” by those involved in the negotiations, Kane ultimately joined FC Bayern.

It is safe to say the move has been a success, with the striker having found the net 146 times in 147 appearances for the Bavarians so far.
