Eugen Polanski: “We made life very difficult for Leverkusen”

Borussia Mönchengladbach salvaged a late draw against Bayer Leverkusen, with both goals coming in the final twenty minutes. Malik Tillman’s second Bundesliga goal was cancelled out by Haris Tabakovic’s equalizer in the final minute of regular time.

“I told the team before the game to trust themselves,” said Gladbach’s interim coach Eugen Polanski after his first game. “Defensively, I thought we made life very difficult for Leverkusen. We quickly regained our structure after a difficult start. In the end, the equaliser was fully deserved. We want to be proactive, aggressive, and play good football. And, I think, we showed a lot of that today.”

On the other hand, Kasper Hjulmand stressed that he needs a little bit more time to get the best out of the newly-assembled team after replacing Erik ten Hag during the international break. Leverkusen recorded back-to-back draws under the former Denmark national team coach following a 3-1 success on his debut against Frankfurt.

“It is a new team that we are developing. Since we have no time, we must do it quickly and achieve results. We have great potential. These are fantastic players with great qualities, which we need to bring together.”
