Exequiel Palacios has committed himself to Bayer Leverkusen by signing a new long-term contract.

The Argentine midfielder’s deal has been extended from 2028 until 2030, Die Werkself announced on Friday.

“Exequiel Palacios has developed into a key pillar of our Werkself since joining in 2020. He has been one of our standout performers in recent years and will continue to take on significant responsibility in building a hungry and title-capable team,” said Bayer 04 managing director for sport Simon Rolfes.

“Palacios’ value to us has increased season by season. His extensive international experience, as well as his outstanding strategic and individual qualities as a central defensive midfielder, make him a core element in constructing a highly ambitious team once again.”

Palacios, who has been with Bayer 04 since January 2020, added:

“Bayer 04 has developed tremendously since I arrived in Germany five years ago. It’s a great feeling to have been an important part of this process,” the 26-year-old said.

“Now we want to continue this story with a team that has everything needed to keep performing well in domestic and European competitions. I’m really looking forward to the coming years with Bayer 04.”

The 26-year-old is currently sidelined with a groin injury that is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the year.
