Whether either Amos Pieper or Leo Bittencourt will represent Werder Bremen into the 2026/27 season is up in the air, according to BILD.

With both players' contracts are expiring, the article suggests initial exploratory talks have taken place with central defender Pieper.

"He will get his playing time and then he has to make the most of it. We're keeping an eye on the contractual situation.

“We're in constant communication with his agency,” said the club's head of professional football Peter Niemeyer.

Things are likely to be even more difficult for midfielder Bittencourt, albeit Niemeyer is aware of the veteran's role in the squad:

“He's a very important player for the team. When he comes in, he gives the team a lot of energy,” he explained.

Bremen supposedly want to wait and see how the season progresses to see if and how an extension makes sense.

Ultimately, it's quite possible that the duo will have to start looking for alternatives next summer or if they even want to extend their contracts.
