Bayer Leverkusen will be without one of their key players when they face German champions Bayern Munich next week.
Alex Grimaldo received his fifth yellow card of the season during Leverkusen’s 3-3 draw with Freiburg on Saturday. The booking means the Spaniard will serve a suspension against Bayern – a decision he felt was unjustified.
“I was angry because I didn’t understand why the referee showed me the yellow card,” Grimaldo fumed in an interview with Bild after the game.
“These referees are really bad. I will try to support my team from the sidelines against Bayern.”
The 30-year-old scored his fifth free-kick goal of the season in Saturday's game, bringing his total tally to 12 goals across all competitions. He has also produced eight assists this campaign.
