Serhou Guirassy was unstoppable in his first season for Borussia Dortmund, but the Guinea international has struggled in recent weeks, scoring just once in his last eight competitive games.

BVB coach Niko Kovac, however, is in no doubt that Guirassy will bounce back.

“I know that many are watching him as a striker. But I also know how important he is to us. We are missing his goals at the moment. But he will get back there. I’m glad to have him and I will stick with him,” Kovac told Kicker.

“He’s fully committed. He can feel what I think of him. I’ve seen strikers go through dry spells at my previous clubs too. That’s exactly when a player needs the coach’s trust – and Serhou gets that from me,” he added.

Kovac also expressed his relief that Guirassy stayed in Dortmund during the international break instead of traveling to play for Guinea.

“Serhou already missed several training sessions during pre-season, and then he had to deal with thigh and shoulder problems,” the BVB coach pointed out.

Kovac, Guirassy and Dortmund will continue their Bundesliga campaign against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
