Isaac Schmidt could hardly have wished for a better debut for Werder Bremen after joining from Leeds United on loan, scoring in his side’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Bayer Leverkusen just before the international break.

The 25-year-old has settled quickly in Germany and can already imagine a longer stay.

“I’m looking for an apartment, I want to put down roots here. I’ve only just arrived, but my goal is to stay,” Schmidt told Bild.

Werder reportedly secured a €3 million purchase option when they took the right-back on loan.

With Mitchell Weiser sidelined due to a long-term injury, Schmidt is competing with fellow new signing Yukinari Sugawara for the right-back spot at the Weserstadion.
