Assan Ouédraogo will miss RB Leipzig’s top-of-the-table clash against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The 19-year-old central midfielder already sat out of four matches towards the end of last year because of a knee injury and suffered a setback after playing around an hour in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Freiburg.

“It didn’t look bad at first, just like against Bremen,” RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner was quoted as saying by Leipziger Volkszeitung on Friday, referring to the earlier knee injury Ouédraogo sustained this season.

“We didn’t take him off because of that. We had planned the substitution for the 60th minute anyway. But the next day he reported discomfort. We’re still in the diagnostic process.”

According to Leipziger Volkszeitung, nothing is torn in the knee, meaning surgery is neither planned nor necessary. However, a layoff of several weeks is unavoidable.
