On Monday, Bild reported that Borussia Dortmund have emerged as the favourites to sign 16-year-old Hertha BSC midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, who has a €10-12 million release clause in his contract. However, the race is far from decided.
As per Sky Germany, Manchester City and Bayer 04 Leverkusen are also pushing to sign the youngster and have drawn up a joint creative plan to convince him.
The report claims that, should the English giants sign Eichhorn, they would immediately send him on loan to Leverkusen, with the two clubs having had “a cooperation in place for some time”.
This would allow Leverkusen to benefit from Eichhorn’s qualities for a certain period, while the 16-year-old would gain experience in the Bundesliga and on the international stage before later returning to Manchester City.
However, competition is fierce, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig said to be interested, in addition to Manchester City, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.
Hertha sporting director Benjamin Weber recently expressed hope of keeping Eichhorn for another season, but Sky reports that the midfielder is planning to leave.
