Confirmed: Union secure loan locale for van Drongelen
FC Union Berlin finally managed to find a loan club for disaffected defender Rick van Drongelen.
After loaning out Tymoteusz Puchacz and then later Pawel Wszolek, Union Berlin still had one underutilized player from their recent transfer classes left to park. Dutch center-halve Rick van Drongelen was among those players on the Union Dead-Weight-Ledger that had put in a transfer request.
After negotiations with various clubs fell through over the course of the January window, Union were finally able to confirmed a loan locale for van Drongelen on deadline day. The 23-year-old will spend the rest of the season on loan with Belgian club KV Mechelen in the Jupiler Pro League.
"Rick requires match practice after his long injury layoff last season," FCU sporting director Oliver Ruhnert said in a statement, "We wish Rick all the best and will keep a close eye on his development."
Ganz viel Erfolg in Belgien, Rick! 🇧🇪
