DFB confirms two-match-ban for Schalke's Drexler

Schalke's Dominik Drexler will officially receive a two-match ban after the DFB disciplinary arm officially issued a judgment on one of the most discussed plays of the weekend.
Following his straight red card in Sunday's loss to Köln, former Köln midfielder will be unavailable for current club FC Schalke 04 over the next two league fixtures. The DFB sports court confirmed a a two-match-suspension on Tuesday. For the 32-year-old, the incident on Sunday marked the third time he has seen a straight red in his professional career. Drexler has earned a sending off in all three German professional footballing divisions.

Schalke issued statements accepting the ban without too much fuss. This despite the fact that club officials initially acted with consternation when discussing the scene after the conclusion of Sunday's fixture. FC Köln gaffer Steffen Baumgart also expressed some sympathy for Drexler afterwards, saying he did not think that Drexler's challenge on Jonas Hector was malicious and that the subsequent VAR review prompting match official Robert Schröder to review the play wasn't necessary.

Drexler will miss Schalke's upcoming games against Gladbach and Wolfsburg.
