Wind admits he had doubts about joining Wolfsburg

By Peter Weis   @PeterVicey

VfL Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind candidly admitted that he had his misgivings about joining Germany's green company team during last January's transfer window whilst speaking to Germany's associated press this week.

Just as he did in an exclusive interview with Bulinews some weeks back, however, the Danish international gave Niko Kovac's coaching regime his full endorsement.

When VfL Wolfsburg came knocking as Jonas Wind's door some nine months ago, the 23-year-old Danish international admitted he wasn't exactly sure that it was a good idea to join a team so thoroughly grappling with their identity. Speaking to the Deutsche-Presse-Agentur earlier this week, Wind shared some of the doubts circulating in his mind at the time.

"If I'm honest, when I made the switch I briefly thought: what would happen if we were relegated to the Second Division?" Wind told the "dpa" earlier this week, "I heard a lot before I came to Wolfsburg: The mood within the team was supposedly not good. They had enough individual talent not be in the top six."

But with everything I knew about the club and saw of the quality of the team," Wind continued, "It was 100 percent clear to me that coming here would be the right move. The Bundesliga is a top league. The organization and structure of the club are really good, and the training facilities are top notch. I'm happy to be here."

Just as he did in an exclusive interview with Bulinews some five weeks ago, the 15-times capped international praised the current VfL coaching regime of Niko Kovac. The 23-year-old noted that the team's current trainer was "throughly focused on details" and "has some good ideas that simply need to be implemented."

Wind conveyed that, despite some sputters during the start to the current campaign, the present mood within the VfL locker room was actually quite positive. Wind is scheduled to make his long-awaited return from an injury that has kept him sidelined since week one against Gladbach this weekend. Kovac has already stated that he will be in the matchday squad.
