Gladbach boss confirms that Thorgan Hazard wants to leave

Thorgan Hazard has decided that he wants to leave Gladbach this summer, says club boss Max Eberl.
Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that Thorgan Hazard has made the decision to leave the club this summer.

Gladbach were eager to extend Hazard's contract, which runs until 2020, but the 26-year-old has turned down the offer as he wants to take the next step in his career.

"Thorgan has informed us that he doesn't want to extend his contract and that he wants to leave the club in the summer to take the next step. I've heard this statement 15 times in the last 10 years as really great players have left us. That's the way it is for us," Gladbach boss Max Eberl told Sky Germany.

Hazard has been linked with various clubs, and Eberl says he doesn't know where the 26-year-old will end up.

"We'll have to see where his path will continue. I don't know whether it will be at BVB, who are constantly being mentioned, or at Atlético Madrid, Liverpool or another club," he said.

According to a recent Kicker report, Hazard has decided that he wants to join Borussia Dortmund.

Gladbach paid €8 million to sign the Belgian international from Chelsea in 2015. He's expected to cost around €40 million this summer, as per Kicker.
