Official: Augsburg take Nigerian international Onyeka on loan
The lateness of the hour precluded the Fuggerstädter from organizing a formal roll-out.

One of FC Augsburg's rumored transfer deadline day signings has been officially introduced. Twenty-five-times-capped Nigerian international Frank Onyeka moves to the Fuggerstadt on loan from London's Brentford FC. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder can be considered a direct replacement for Niklas Dorsch, who was sold to Heidenheim on the final day of business in the 2024 summer window.
Onyeka will be reunited with former FC Midtjylland trainer Jess Thorup at FCA. After four years in Denmark, Onyeka departed for the Isle and made 69 top flight appearances with Brentford. In the process, he pumped his estimated market worth up to €9 million. He has one EPL goal and four assists to his credit. It was not revealed if the loan to Augsburg contains a purchase option.
“The opportunity to bring Frank Onyeka to FCA was one we wanted to take," FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic noted in a club statement, "With his international experience, athletic ability and robustness, he brings a strong presence to the pitch. We are now ideally positioned in midfield for the current season, as we have different types of players in our team."
“I'm hoping to get a lot of playing time on loan at FC Augsburg and I'm looking forward to being able to play an active part in the team straight away," Onyeka himself added, "I'm hoping for a successful season and I'm looking forward to working with Jess Thorup again. I can't wait to get to know the fans and the rest of the team.”
