With two goals and three assists in his first five Bundesliga games for Werder Bremen, Samuel Mbangula has quickly become a fan favourite.

For Werder's managing director of professional football, Clemens Fritz, the 21-year-old occasionally evokes memories of club legend Diego, who played at the Weserstadion from 2006 to 2009.

“He has huge potential. He’s already shown that in his first weeks in the Bundesliga,” Fritz told Sport Bild.

“I don’t want to compare Samuel directly to Diego they’re different types of players. But what they have in common is how well they use their body to shield the ball.

"‘Sam’ is extremely difficult to dispossess, and that’s a clear similarity.”

Werder paid a reported €10 million to sign the promising winger from Juventus over the summer.
