After their first home win of the season, Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen and goal-scorer Samuel Mbangula assessed their 1-0 victory over St. Pauli

“That was an important home win. I hope the fans can go home with a good feeling, even though it was a hard-fought match.

"We had good solutions and were able to switch quickly. St. Pauli improved over time, which meant we had to defend a lot, but we did that very well.

“We're happy we were able to keep the three points here [at the Weserstadion],” said the Bremen gaffer.

The goal was ultimately decided by an early strike from Samuel Mbangula who was delighted with the win but wants his side to improve their efficiency going forward.

“I'm very happy about our first home win and hope it won't be just one of the season. It was a very intense and difficult game against St.Pauli.

"It wasn't easy to find gaps, so I'm all the happier that we won and I scored. We had many good chances towards the end to decide the game early.

“We have to work on that, to become even more effective,” said the 21-year-old Belgian winger.
