Xhaka set to stay at Leverkusen despite exit fears

A few weeks ago, Granit Xhaka looked to be another player heading out of Bayer Leverkusen’s exit door. According to kicker, that looks unlikely to happen this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen fans feared for the worst when Granit Xhaka was very emotional in the final weeks of the season. However, the thought of leaving the club might not be the reason behind that.

Kicker report that Xhaka feels at home in Rhineland, and Leverkusen would still demand a transfer fee in the double-digit million range. The 33-year-old midfielder was in Basel for his brother’s farewell game as Taulant Xhaka retired from football after a 12-year stay in his hometown club.

Granit Xhaka also started his professional career at Basel, but he left the club at a young age to join Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012. Seeing Xherdan Shaqiri’s influence, Basel fans hope for the return of Switzerland’s captain.

However, they need to wait a bit longer for that since Leverkusen plan the future with the experienced midfielder. Considering the mass departures list and the change in the coaching staff, Xhaka’s presence would certainly help in the club’s transition period.
