Freiburg vs. Bayer Leverkusen preview: Will Bayern's title be confirmed?

Freiburg will carry significant momentum into Sunday’s fixture after putting together a three-game winning run, which began with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. They went on to claim a 3-2 home win against Hoffenheim, before they edged out Wolfsburg via a 1-0 scoreline in last Saturday’s away clash.
Max Rosenfelder scored the decisive goal against die Wölfe to help extend Freiburg’s unbeaten away run to six matches (W4, D2). The win ensured Freiburg finished matchday 31 in fourth position, making it a little surprising that they have a negative goal difference.
They will still have work to do in their final three games against Leverkusen, Holstein Kiel and Frankfurt if they are to secure Champions League qualification for their first time in their history. Their hopes of claiming all three points on Sunday may be tempered by the fact they have not beaten Leverkusen since they claimed a 3-2 away win in September 2022, while they have not recorded a home victory since December 2021.

Freiburg are both unable to call upon the services of Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Bruno Ogbus due to knee and Achilles injuries respectively.

Leverkusen are all but guaranteed to lose their Bundesliga crown despite the fact Bayern Munich had to settle for a 3-3 draw in Saturday’s away clash with RB Leipzig. Die Werkself are sitting nine points adrift of the leaders with three games left to play, but the significant goal difference deficit means that it is a matter of time before the Bavarians clinch the title.
Xabi Alonso’s side can at least delay Bayern’s celebrations by a week if they claim all three points in Sunday’s meeting with Freiburg. They will carry a six-game unbeaten league run into the fixture after they extended that streak with a 2-0 win in last Saturday’s home clash against Augsburg, courtesy of goals from Patrik Schick and Emiliano Buendía.
Leverkusen may fancy their chances of picking up another victory on Sunday, given the fact they have won four of their previous five Bundesliga away matches. The visitors have also won each of their last three meetings with Freiburg, including in a commanding 5-1 victory in December’s reverse fixture.
