Köln responded to Borussia Dortmund’s claim about Said El Mala’s dream to join the Black and Yellows via their head of sports Thomas Kessler. The two clubs ended discussions after Köln rejected an offer that would surpass €50 million with easily achievable bonuses.

"I have noticed that Dortmund have spoken about it. I can do that now," said Kessler in an interview with "Geissblog". "We were in contact with Borussia Dortmund. In the end, it didn't come to the transfer.

“But I never heard Said (El Mala) 'It's my absolute dream to play for Borussia Dortmund. The way he behaves shows that he's totally proud to be a player of 1. FC Köln.”

BVB managing director Carsten Cramer spoke on Saturday about how the player looked forward to the transfer during negotiations. El Mala scored a penalty-kick on Sunday as Köln played two behind-closed-doors friendlies with Paderborn to end pre-season.

"It was a result of very respectful talks between two clubs. And, as it sometime happens, you don't always agree," Kessler concluded his verdict.
