Eintracht Frankfurt's Champions League odyssey came to an abrupt end with a game to spare after a 3-2 defeat to Qarabağ tonight

After the game, the Hessen club's sporting director Markus Krösche cut a frustrated figure after the disappointing result.

"It’s extremely frustrating to lose the match after being in front. We made the same mistakes as in previous weeks and in doing so we’re robbing ourselves of victory a bit.

“We need to walk through this storm together right now. Clearly, being eliminated from the Champions League is not what we wanted,” he added.

Eintracht's interim coach Dennis Schmitt – who took over from the dismissed Dino Toppmöller – will hope to make improvements for their game against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.

“We’re obviously disappointed, the boys put a lot of effort in and we desperately wanted to win. The boys were very disciplined and showed intensity on the pitch.

“We’ll analyse everything and then put everything into winning against Hoffenheim. There were signs of progress but we also made one mistake too many,” Schmitt explained.
