Since Matthias Ginter joined Borussia Mönchengladbach from Borussia Dortmund for €17 million in 2017, the centre-back has not missed a single minute on the pitch and has emerged as one of the club's most important players.

Looking back at the transfer, the German international explains he needed a change of scene.

"There was a lot of unrest in Dortmund. Thomas Tuchel left, a new coach came in, and the club signed new defenders. That's when I asked myself the question: 'Do I want to take an unpredictable risk the year before the World Cup? Or do I want to take the next step - on a personal level as well - and play in a regular position at another club?'," he told the Tagesspiegel.

Ginter was selected for Germany's World Cup squad, but didn't make an appearance in Russia.
