Report: Feyenoord potentially willing to take on Meunier

Transfermarkt's German website reports that Feyenoord Rotterdam may be willing to pay a small transfer sum  to acquire Borussia Dortmund fullback Thomas Meunier during the current January transfer window.
Despite the fact that injuries recently forced Borussia Dortmund to place disaffected fullback Thomas Meunier back on the pitch, Germany's second wealthiest club would still love to potentially rid themselves of a player known to serve as a burden on their payroll. The 32-year-old has been considered a dead-weight roster occupant for some time and will be departing the BVB on his expiring contract at the end of the season. Meunier's recent return to the BVB starting XI came after 416 days without a start.

It seemed highly unlikely that Dortmund would be able to recover a small sum for Meunier during the current January transfer window, but transfermarkt's German home site nevertheless reports that Feyenoord Rotterdam have at least contacted the German club about completing such a transaction. One assumes that the sum involved would not amount to much. Meunier - considered worth €24 million when he joined Dortmund - has an estimated market worth of €2.5 million today.

Previous attempts to move Meunier naturally failed as the player would have to agree to a significant pay cut after the dissolution of his current BVB working papers. The Belgian international would presumably be more amenable to a move now with only six months of his Dortmund salary left to draw. Meunier would also ostensibly prefer to earn playing time ahead of this summer's coming European Championships. The former Brugge star has been capped 62 times for the Belgian national team.
