Simons more keen on Leipzig stay than Bayern move, per report
RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich are locked in a battle to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
According to Sport Bild, Simons would prefer to stay at Leipzig, where he spent last season on loan.
However, it's doubtful that Leipzig will be able to reach an agreement with PSG. The German football publication claims that Leipzig would like to sign Simons on a permanent basis, but the French champions would prefer a loan with an obligation to buy because a percentage of the fee would go to PSV should they sell the Dutchman this summer.
To sign Simons, Leipzig would have to break the €40 million transfer record they set when they signed Lois Openda last summer. The Bundesliga side are unlikely to pay more than €60 million.
Only if the negotiations between Leipzig and PSG fail will Bayern come back into the picture, according to the report.
Simons recently said he wants to concentrate on playing for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 for the time being.
