Bayern become first team to score nine goals in a Champions League game with 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb

With Tuesday's wild 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb, Bayern Munich became the first team ever to score nine goals in a Champions League match.

Bayern Munich set a new record for the most goals scored by a single team in a Champions League match when they thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 on Tuesday night.

Prior to Tuesday's game at the Allianz Arena, no team had ever scored nine goals in a single UEFA Champions League match (excluding qualifying).

It was also Bayern's biggest ever win in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing their 8-2 victory over Barcelona in 2020.

Bayern previously scored nine goals in a European Cup match in 1972, when they beat Omonia 9-0 in the first leg of a European Cup second-round tie.

The 9-2 win is the joint second-highest scoreline in a UEFA Champions League match (group stage through to the final) with 11 goals, tied with Monaco's 8-3 win over Deportivo La Coruna in November 2023.

Borussia Dortmund's 8-4 win over Legia Warszawa in November 2016 (12 goals) remains the highest-scoring Champions League match.
