Unsurprisingly, Jamal Musiala was named in Germany’s 26-man World Cup squad, which was announced on Thursday afternoon.

After recovering from the serious ankle injury he suffered last summer and missing out on the Germany squad in March, the 23-year-old has been given consistent playing time at Bayern Munich in the closing weeks of the season.

Considering this, there was no doubt about the Bayern star's inclusion for Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, even if he may not yet be back at his absolute best.

“I’m not a fan of setting expectations. Jamal has gradually gotten better into rhythm. He is increasingly becoming the player he was before the injury,” Nagelsmann said on Thursday, adding:

“Even at 95 percent, Jamal is still one of the most extraordinary players on the planet. I’m incredibly happy he’s back and will help us.”

Musiala has scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 40 appearances for Germany’s national team.
