Augsburg officially introduce Okugawa

FC Augsburg officially unveiled a long-awaited signing on Wednesday afternoon.
Some time after he was rumored to have passed a medical, Japanese attacking midfielder Masaya Okugawa was officially unveiled as a new FC Augsburg player on Wednesday afternoon. The 27-year-old signed a new three-year-deal to play in the Fuggerstadt. Okugawa joins the FCA on a free after Arminia Bielefeld's relegation from the German second division nullified his working papers. He returns to the Bundesliga just one year after Bielefeld were relegated from the top-flight.

During his time in Bielefeld, Okugawa scored nine top-flight goals in 46 Bundesliga appearances. He netted five goals and contributed 10 assists during the DSC's 2. Bundesliga campaign last season. He (along with new Gladbach signing Robin Hack) constituted one of the few bright spots during Bielefeld's recent campaign. His unfortunate absence due to a broken collarbone late in the season contributed to the relegated side's demise.

"Masaya Okugawa is a fast, agile and strong-dribbling player who can provide a lot of danger and creative solutions in the final third,"FCA Managing Director Sport Stefan Reuter noted in a club statement, "He is comfortable in the ten position as well as on both wings and has racked a consistent number of scorer points in recent years. With him, our offensive department will become even more unpredictable."

"I'm very happy to be able to play in the Bundesliga again soon," the player himself added,  "Here in Augsburg, the conditions are ideal and the team also has a lot of talent and mentality. I would now like to exhibit my best in training camp and, if possible, earn a place in the starting XI."
