Official: Sabitzer moves to Dortmund

Marcel Sabitzer's transfer to Borussia Dortmund was officially confirmed on Monday evening.
Following the signing of Felix Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund have now added their second attacking midfielder of the current summer transfer window. Marcel Sabitzer joins the Schwarzgelben from defending league champions FC Bayern München. The 71-times-capped international brings with him the experience of 185 Bundesliga games for Bayern and RB Leipzig.

The exact amount of the transfer fee was not made clear. Earlier reports from Germany's Kicker Magazine suggested that Bayern were not averse to letting Sabitzer go for the €15 million they initially paid for him in the summer of 2021. Without confirming the final fee, Kicker now notes that Dortmund may have paid between €15 and €20 million.

Sabitzer saw his career stalled after joining the German record champions due to the competitive midfield situation. The 29-year-old was loaned out to Manchester United during the second half of last year's campaign, but the English Red Devils showed no interest in keeping him. The player's new deal in North Rhine Westphalia runs through 2027.

"Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at top international level for years," BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a statement, He fits exactly the profile we were looking for: a central midfielder who will strengthen us as a box-to-box player both sides of the ball. We are convinced that he will also become an important pillar of the team with his personality and help us greatly."

"I can't wait to finally join the team and wear the BVB jersey," the player himself added, "The talks with Borussia Dortmund's managers were excellent and showed me how ambitious the club wants to be in the coming years. I want to do my part to help BVB achieve its goals and, as soon as possible, have every reason to celebrate something special with its fans again."
