Poulsen confirms Leipzig rejected interest in him from Dortmund

Yussuf Poulsen has spoken out about the interest Borussia Dortmund showed in him over the summer.
It was reported over the summer that Borussia Dortmund had made a late attempt to sign Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig.

However, as the 29-year-old striker has confirmed, Leipzig didn't want to let him go.

"Dortmund were interested and wanted me, but the club said they didn't want me to move," Yussuf Poulsen told Bold.dk at the Danish national team camp.

"If they had come to an agreement, Leipzig had given the green light and my role would have been different to the one I've had this season, then maybe it would have been the right career move.

"When an official inquiry is made, I'm also asked if I'm interested, but if the club says no, it doesn't matter if I was interested or not. It was an opportunity that never came," Poulsen stressed.

Poulsen, who has played for Leipzig since 2013, is out of contract next summer but expects to agree a new deal with the club.

"We're in talks about what's going to happen and about a contract extension. That's what we're discussing at the moment and then we'll have to see when a final decision is made.

"If everything works out, I'd be happy to stay in Leipzig for more seasons. We'll have to see. I haven't been involved in the talks behind the scenes too much because I'm concentrating on playing football," the striker explained.
