The versatile attacker Christian Rasmussen, capable of playing on the right wing, at centre-forward, or in the number 10 role, has completed a transfer from Ajax to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Rasmussen joins on a permanent transfer, reportedly for a fee around €1 million - a significant drop from Ajax’s initial €1.5 million asking price.

The deal represents Fortuna’s eighth incoming signing for the upcoming campaign, underlining their ambitions to push for promotion.

A product of the famed Ajax youth academy, Rasmussen played 25 senior games for the Dutch club, including appearances in the Eredivisie, Europa League, and KNVB Cup, though his breakthrough remained limited.

He also impressed on loan at Nordsjaelland during the 2023/24 season, showcasing his adaptability and maturity.

“Christian went through the Ajax school and has therefore enjoyed an excellent education,” said Düsseldorf sporting director Klaus Allofs on Thursday.

"We see a lot of potential in him and are happy that we were able to convince a player of his quality of our path. By signing Christian Rasmussen, we are once again creating new options in the attacking positions."

Rasmussen himself said: "I had to make a very important decision for myself this summer. I had a few options and deliberately chose Düsseldorf. Fortuna gives young players the chance to show themselves and develop and they have great fans here. I want to help the team find its way into the Bundesliga with goals and assists and win as many games as possible."
