The 28-year-old has made 75 appearances for Die Fohlenelf since arriving at Borussia Park in 2022.

While Manchester City hold a matching right this summer, Frankfurt are monitoring the situation of the defender in case of a potential move for Eagles defender Tuta.

According to Plettenberg, the Japanese centre back has a release clause of €10-15 million.

Itakura arrived in Germany in 2021, as he signed for Schalke on loan from Manchester City following a prior loan spell with Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Groningen.

Making 31 appearances for Gladbach last term, it remains to be seen whether he is keen on taking a step into Champions League football.
