Hoffenheim boss issues warning after survival: "Something has to change"

Hoffenheim boss Andreas Schicker knows that things must change at the club ahead of next season.

Despite a heavy 0-4 defeat to Bayern Munich on the final matchday of the Bundesliga season, there was a clear sense of relief at the PreZero Arena as Hoffenheim narrowly avoided the relegation play-off.

Heidenheim’s 1-4 loss to Werder Bremen ensured Hoffenheim’s survival in the Bundesliga, despite a poor run of form with only one win from the final ten matches.

Still, managing director for sport Andreas Schicker made no attempt to sugarcoat the situation.

“We know something has to change - it can’t go on like this,” Schicker told Sky Germany.

After admitting his relief that the season had ended, Schicker made it clear that the focus is already on reshaping the squad.

“We need to get to work on the squad immediately. It’s too big, and we also have to add quality - we’re fully aware of that.”

Despite the team’s recent struggles, head coach Christian Ilzer’s position remains secure.

“We’ll definitely start the new season with Christian Ilzer. I’ve said that several times in recent weeks,” Schicker confirmed, adding that the coach needs “time and a full pre-season” to implement his ideas.
