As Hamburg continue their search for a replacement for Davie Selke, one name that has emerged on their radar is RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen, according to a report from the Hamburger Abendblatt.

Having already completed the signing of Rayan Philippe from Braunschweig in recent days, it seems Hamburg aren’t done yet in their quest for offensive reinforcements as they look to adjust to life back in the Bundesliga.

Despite the Dane currently holding the all-time appearance record for Die Roten Bullen with 425 appearances, playing time has started to dry up with Poulsen only managing 22 Bundesliga appearances last season whilst registering 2 goals. This could well play into Hamburg’s hands should he be looking to leave in search of guaranteed minutes elsewhere.

The reported asking price is said to be around €2-3 million, which seems good value for the experienced striker who has 49 Bundesliga goals to his name. HSV are likely to be undeterred by this price tag.

Unfortunately, the stumbling block may come during wage discussions, with Poulsen reportedly earning around €6 million per year in Leipzig. This would likely mean a wage cut would need to be agreed upon for the 31-year-old to make the move to northern Germany.
