FC Augsburg

After collecting seven points from their opening three games of the season, FC Augsburg suffered a setback just before the international break, surrendering a two-goal lead in a 3-2 defeat to Werder Bremen.

Despite the disappointment of the defeat, made all the more frustrating by the position Augsburg had put themselves in, Die Fuggerstädter remain an impressive fourth in the table as they prepare to welcome Bavarian neighbours Bayern Munich to the WWK-Arena on Saturday.

Taking on a Bayern side boasting the red-hot Michael Olise and Harry Kane will be a major challenge, but Manuel Baum’s men can draw confidence from the fact that they inflicted the champions’ only Bundesliga defeat last season, claiming a shock 2-1 victory at the Allianz Arena.

Repeating that feat will be no easy task, but Baum insists his players must believe they can pull off another upset if they are to stand any chance of doing so.

“Right from kick-off, everyone in the stadium and everyone in the team has to believe that we can win. The probability of a win might be lower against Bayern, but without that belief, it will never happen,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

Team News

Augsburg will be without the injured trio of Steve Mounié, Tim Breithaupt and Noahkai Banks on Saturday, but Anton Kade is available again after recovering from a muscle injury.

Bayern Munich

Following their hugely impressive 2025/26 campaign, Bayern Munich have largely picked up where they left off, with their only notable setback coming in a disappointing goalless draw against Schalke 04 on Matchday 3.

That dropped points have left the reigning champions in second place heading into Saturday’s encounter, two points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund.

With Bayern keen to keep pace with their title rivals, victory on Saturday will be a priority. Their shock 2-1 defeat to Augsburg at the Allianz Arena in January should provide further motivation to avoid another slip-up.

“It’s a very important match; we lost one Bundesliga game last year, and that was against Augsburg. It’s still a derby, and it’s an away fixture," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said at his pre-match press conference.

"What sets FCA apart is that they’re very compact and can be very dangerous on the ball. They’ve got a lot of individual quality – more than people sometimes realise. They’ve made a flying start to the season. It’s a derby; the fans are looking forward to it, and so are we.”

Team News

Kompany will have a near-full squad available for the trip to Augsburg, with Jamal Musiala the only absentee after suffering a thigh injury during the international break.
