Jérôme Boateng heaps praise on Bayern, Kompany and Tah

The former Bayern defender made over 229 appearances for the club in a spell between 2011 and 2021.

In an interview with SPORT1, former Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng states he regularly keeps an eye on Bavarian club's progress.

"I watch every game and still have many friends there, and I'm in good contact with them. That's why I'm happy they won the title again.

“I'm also happy for Vincent Kompany; I played with him at HSV and Manchester City. He's doing a great job,” he added.

Boateng went on to say how Kompany has improved the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena and gave his backing to new signing Jonathan Tah.

“I'm absolutely convinced of him. He's taken another huge step forward in the last two years, reaching a new level.

“I absolutely believe he can play at FC Bayern. He is an asset and can become the defensive leader. He's old enough and knows what's good for him,” he explained.

The 36-year-old World Cup winner touched on how he almost re-signed with the Bavarians in 2023, but the move never materialised.

"I had been training with the club for about a week, and the coach [Thomas Tuchel] told me that I had impressed him.

“At the time, Bayern had a lot of injuries … My personal life and the court case certainly played a role. That's life. It didn't work out," he said.
