RB Leipzig are working on signing Marlon Gomes from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. As Fabrizio Romano reports, Shakhtar Donetsk have rejected an initial offer from the Bundesliga club for the 21-year-old.
However, Leipzig are expected to follow up on their first offer - the central midfielder has a transfer value of €10 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Marlon Gomes transferred to Donetsk in January 2024 for a reported fee of €12 million and has featured in 48 games since. He also managed to score eight goals and gave 5 assists during that period.
The Brazilian would fit in well with Leipzig's strategy of signing young and developing players; they made three new signings on Wednesday alone: the two wingers Yan Diomande (18/CD Leganés) and Johan Bakayoko (22/PSV Eindhoven) as well as attacking midfielder Andrija Maksimovic (18/Red Star Belgrade).
Leipzig paid €52 million for this trio of players. Previously, €36 million had already been invested in the midfield - €16 million for Ezechiel Banzuzi (20/OH Leuven) and 20 million for the permanent signing of Arhur Vermeeren (20/Atlético Madrid). The €4 million transfer of left-back Max Finkgräfe (21/1.FC Köln) is a bargain in this respect.
It seems like Leipzig have not had enough yet - stay tuned for more news on their shopping spree and their pursuit of Marlon Gomes!
