Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus hasn't given up on keeping Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini, but knows there is a real chance of losing the duo for free in the summer, at which point the duo are out of contract.

"I can't promise that both will stay with us beyond the season. But we will try to talk to both of them again," Virkus told Sky Germany.

"We will try everything, but there may also be a point in time when we just can't keep up when it comes to sums that Borussia simply can't afford."

According to Sport bild, Thuram's agent, Meïssa N'diaye, already informed the club about his client's desire to leave back in May 2022.

Since then, Gladbach have had no direct contact with the representative despite several attempts to reach him, per the report.

Gladbach have reportedly previously offered Thuram a contract worth €5 million per year, which would make him the sole top earner.

"We went to the limit with the offer we made to Marcus Thuram," noted Virkus.
