Maximilian Beier’s 96th-minute goal secured a vital win for Borussia Dortmund over 1. FC Köln. Despite their superiority in all metrics, the hosts were unable to beat Marvin Schwäbe until the deflected effort by Beier.

“You really have to say that Köln did really well,” acknowledged Niko Kovac after the end of the game. “They defended very well. We pressed up from the first minute, and we defended high. That put our opponents to stay inside their half until the end. That’s what I want, and that’s what our fans want to see.”

The Black and Yellows responded very well to their defeat to Bayern with back-to-back wins over Copenhagen and Köln. Kovac’s side will travel to Eintracht Frankfurt for a cup action on Tuesday.
