1.FC Köln has extended the contract of Timo Hübers, who suffered a serious knee injury at the end of October, by one further year.

Hübers first broke through at Hannover 96 before going on to play for Köln's reserve team in the 2015-16 season.

Since returning in 2021, the center-back has been back in the FC Köln jersey and helped the club qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

Despite the untimely injury, Hübers has now made 135 appearances for Köln, captaining them to a 2.Bundesliga title in 2024-25.

“I have great respect for how Timo is handling this situation," said the Cathedral club's managing director Thomas Kessler.

"After the initial shock, he incredibly quickly demonstrated impressive professionalism and strength. His experience of having already faced a similar situation certainly helps him.

"At the same time, you can see every day the ambition and discipline with which he is working on his comeback.

"He is at the Geißbockheim training ground almost daily, consciously seeks out the team, and is an important part of our group.

"It was therefore clear to us that we would give him our full confidence and maximum support on his journey.

"He will get all the time he needs from us – without any pressure. The contract extension is a conscious sign of our appreciation and our trust,” he added.
