Kevin Stöger has struggled to nail down a starting spot for Borussia Mönchengladbach since arriving from Bochum last summer.

But when Alassane Plea and Franck Honorat picked up injuries in January, the 31-year-old was called upon and has seized his opportunity, emerging as a key player in recent weeks.

Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane has been delighted with what he's seen from the 31-year-old midfielder at the No. 10 position of late, telling Bild:

"Kevin is a hierarchical player. He takes responsibility with and without the ball.

"He works up front and at the back, so you sometimes feel like you have an extra player in midfield with him.

“With his maturity and spirit, he is very important for the stability and compactness of our defence,” said Seoane.

With Alassane Plea fit again, the Frenchman is pushing for a start, but that doesn't necessarily mean Stöger will be benched.

There's also the possibility that the Frenchman could come in on one of the wings at the expense of Nathan Ngoumou or Robin Hack.
