Jonas Wind is gradually working his way back to full fitness after a muscle injury.

The Danish striker played the first 45 minutes in Wolfsburg’s recent 1-2 friendly defeat to SC Paderborn, scoring a header and earning praise from head coach Paul Simonis.

"We all see Jonas’s qualities. He’s a really intelligent striker. On the ball, he’s the best of the three we have," Simonis told Kicker.

"He can hold onto the ball, he always finds his teammates, and he always keeps an overview, so he never gets stressed."

However, as far as his fitness is concerned, there’s still progress to be made, Simonis added.

"He still has a lot of work to do, because this is not yet the level we want to reach," he said.

"In that regard, Dženan (Pejcinovic) is far ahead. But that’s logical when you haven’t played for such a long time."

Pejcinovic, who scored on his debut for Germany’s U21 national team against Albania last week, has started Wolfsburg’s first two league games this season.
