Hamburger SV have announced the signing of Yussuf Poulsen from RB Leipzig.

The Denmark international has signed a permanent deal with the newly-promoted Bundesliga side.

“There’s no need to say much about Yussuf Poulsen,” said HSV sporting director Stefan Kuntz.

“He is one of the faces of the Bundesliga. With all his experience and maturity, he knows every aspect of professional football. Yussuf made the journey with Leipzig from the third division all the way to the Champions League, so he knows exactly what it takes after a promotion to stay up and establish yourself in the Bundesliga for the long term.

"He is expected to bring this experience into the team and lead the way as a leader with his personality.”

After completing his transfer, Poulsen described HSV as an “awesome club”.

“The first international match I ever watched was a UEFA Cup game between FC Copenhagen and HSV. I hope to feel a lot of appreciation here. I always give everything and leave my heart out on the pitch in every training session and every game. I’m also really looking forward to the fans and the atmosphere at the Volksparkstadion. I experienced that when I played there with Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal - it was phenomenal.

"I always said: hopefully HSV will be back in the Bundesliga soon. I’ve also been promoted myself, so I know how much euphoria that can bring. I want to be as successful as possible and I hope we can have a great season together,” said Poulsen, who will wear the number 15 shirt at HSV.

Poulsen made a club-record 425 appearances for Leipzig, scoring 95 goals and providing 66 assists.
