18-year-old Samuele Inácio made his third consecutive start for Borussia Dortmund in Friday’s 3–2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and even got on the scoresheet for the first time.
The young Italian forward played in attacking midfield alongside experienced Julian Brandt, who made his last appearance for Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park ahead of his departure as a free agent this summer.
With Inácio having impressed recently, BVB coach Niko Kovač suggested after the game that it may not even be necessary to sign a replacement for Brandt.
“I think we have already seen a small generational change. He could perhaps one day become Jule’s replacement. Big shoes to fill, but the youngster is only 18 and Jule is now 30,” Kovač said, according to Bild.
BVB managing director for sport Lars Ricken and sporting director Ole Book spoke in a similar vein.
“He has started three games in a row and also played through the last two matches. We must not unnecessarily place too much burden on him, but of course it is an indication for next season,” said Ricken, while Book commented:
“We will not block his path and will give him every opportunity to earn a good position for himself.”
Inácio is said to be close to extending his contract until 2030 or 2031
