Record breaker Boniface: "Should have scored at least 25 goals"

Victor Boniface has set a new record for most shots in the Bundesliga after five matchdays.
On Sunday, high-flying Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface broke an old record for most shots taken after five Bundesliga matchdays.

After scoring a brace against Heidenheim yesterday to take his league tally to six, Boniface has now taken a total of 38 shots.

The record was previously held by Uwe Wegmann, who had 35 shots for Bochum after five games in the 1994/95 season.

Boniface himself doesn't think the record is entirely a positive thing.

"If you have 38 shots on goal as a player, you should have scored at least 25 goals," he joked in a post-match interview.

"That's why I don't want to congratulate myself.

"As long as I score and we win, I have no worries," said the Nigerian striker.

Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with 10 goals, ahead of Harry Kane (7) and Boniface (6).
