Agent reacts to suggestions that Mathys Tel could play for Germany

Mathys Tel's agent has played down suggestions that the Bayern Munich striker could play for Germany instead of France.

Bild recently speculated on the possibility of Bayern Munich and France youth international striker Mathys Tel being naturalized to play for Germany.

German Football Association boss Rudi Völler refused to rule anything out, telling the German tabloid:

"We all know that we don’t have an extremely big number of top strikers like we did perhaps five, ten or 15 years ago. Of course, he is a great striker. He also performed really well for Bayern. We can certainly try. But in the end, it's the player himself who decides - and of course his family. That should not be underestimated. His roots are very French," Völler said.

Tel's agent, Gadiri Camara, has now responded to the speculation, saying that Tel is currently fully focused on the tasks ahead with the French U-21 national team.

"Nobody spoke to us about this possibility. We saw the statement of Rudi Völler and that means that all German people love Mathys and his work. But to be honest, the kid is focused on the U21s. I don’t want to disturb him with that."

According to Sport1, playing for Germany is not an option for the 18-year-old forward, who joined Bayern from Rennes in the summer of 2022.

He has scored six goals in 11 appearances for the German champions this season.
