After Union Berlin’s dramatic 2–3 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal, centre-back Leopold Querfeld expressed pride in his team’s performance despite the disappointment of the result. “I’m proud of the team. We fought back twice and ended up losing because of three set-piece goals - which are actually our strength,” he said after the match.

Querfeld highlighted how uncomfortable Union made the visitors feel in Köpenick: “I don’t think Bayern enjoy playing here. We tried to press them early and annoy them and in the first half that worked really well.”

The Austrian defender, who scored both of Union’s goals from the penalty spot, also took a moment to acknowledge the calibre of the opponent he beat twice: “First of all: massive respect to Manuel Neuer. For me, it’s really cool that I got to score two penalties against such a world-class goalkeeper.”

Despite the elimination, Querfeld’s comments reflected a Union side that left everything on the pitch - full of fight, belief, and defiance until the final whistle.
