Both teams had decent chances to open the scoring inside the first ten minutes, but the first goal only came in the 26th minute. Younes Ebnoutalib ended his mini goal drought as Bambasé Conté unselfishly set him up after dispossessing Marcel Franke.

After scoring his tenth goal of the campaign to tie with Darmstadt’s Isac Lidberg, Ebnoutalib squandered lots of clear-cut chances. Karlsruhe suddenly leveled the score with Roko Simic’s second goal of the season. The Croat striker beat Hans Christian Bernat after his initial attempt was blocked.

However, the hosts retook the lead with a spectacular effort by Lukas Petkov. They continued to waste multiple chances in an end-to-end encounter. Karlsruhe equalized again with the half-time substitute Simic grabbing his brace with a fantastic header.

There was still time for Elversberg to snatch all three points, though. Felix Keidel sits on the bench for the first time since matchday five, but he won it for them with his first goal in the final minute of injury-time. The dramatic win ended a three-game winless run for Elversberg as they climbed to third in the standings.
