Bayern Munich defender Konrad Laimer did not feature in Austria's 5-1 victory over Ghana due to knee discomfort, according to Ralf Rangnick.

“Konny trained normally yesterday and had no problems. But after training, he felt something in his knee," the Austrian head coach said after the game.

"It was an irritation, so we decided not to take any risks. We know which games he still has coming up. We don't need to test Konny.

“We know what we have in him. Therefore, it was clear to me that we wouldn't take any risks,” said Rangnick, explaining why he was left out of his plans.

When asked whether the 28-year-old will feature in their next international friendly against South Korea this Tuesday, 31 March, Rangnick said: “We have to wait and see. We won't take any risks”.

Meanwhile, the Bavarians club's star striker Harry Kane has joined up with his compatriots in the English National Team.

The 32-year-old was afforded a rest by Thomas Tuchel for England's 1-1 draw with Uruguay, but is expected to feature against Japan on Tuesday, 31 March.
