RB Leipzig will end the current season away at SC Freiburg on Saturday. Ole Werner, who had a successful debut season at the club, was asked about the next campaign in his latest interview with Bundesliga.
“Our objective is to perform at this level with a different rhythm,” Werner replied concerning the added competition as Leipzig qualified for the Champions League. “It’s a challenging objective because the team is still going through a development stage. We’ll test ourselves against Europe's best, while trying to challenge for a Champions League spot in Bundesliga.”
Last season was the first time RB Leipzig failed to qualify for Europe since they got promoted to Bundesliga. Although he was under scrutiny at some points of the season, Werner managed to fulfill expectations that would secure him the job for the 2026/27 campaign. The 38-year-old coach refrains from making any promises for the future, however.
“I think the first step for us is to have a similarly solid season when competing in three competitions. We always set the highest objectives, and you always strive for more. But Bayern were a step ahead of the league this year. It’s important that we continue our development. We will look primarily at ourselves and not at the competition.”
